Recent Paintings, Juan Carlos Castellanos
September 7th - September 30th, 2006
The paintings in Castellanos' figurative paintings are classically based, with influences ranging from the ancient Greek Cycladic sculptures to Alberto Giacometti's elongated bronzes. A master painter Castellanos has captured a sculptural aesthetic with his series of figurative work on paper. The work evokes a feeling of calm at evening dusk. And as if in a dream, the images are partially revealed in some paintings and nearly fully obscured in others, but in all there's a warmth of human presence. Working with a neutral, monochromatic palette, the paintings are classic and timeless.
